Greater Shepparton is proud of its diversity. With a population made up of more than 40 nationalities, including a strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander presence, long-standing Albanian and Italian communities, and a growing population of Pasifika and East African families, this region is a rich cultural tapestry.

Community Arts
Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) — A world-class art institution celebrated for its contemporary art, Indigenous exhibitions, and community programs. SAM’s striking architecture and lakefront location make it a must-visit destination during the festival.
Riverlinks — The leading performing arts venue in the region, Riverlinks hosts a wide range of theatre, music, dance, and community events throughout the year. The Eastbank and Westside venues regularly feature in our festival program.
Kaiela Arts — An Aboriginal art centre that plays a vital role in supporting First Nations artists and cultural expression in the Goulburn Valley. Their work often features in our programs and collaborations.
Exploring the Area
Victoria Park Lake — A central green space perfect for walking, picnicking, or unwinding by the water. The area includes flat paths, accessible toilets, and shaded seating.
Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton — Set in a reclaimed landfill, this garden celebrates native plants, community resilience, and ecological restoration. Paths are accessible and wide-ranging.
Dookie Rail Trail — A scenic and accessible walking/cycling trail through the Dookie hills, ideal for those looking for a gentle regional adventure.
SAM Precinct & Lakeside Precinct — With cafes, walking trails, art installations, and event spaces all in one connected area, this is a hub of creative activity and calm.
Transport
Greater Shepparton is easily accessible by road and rail.
By Train: V/Line trains run regularly from Melbourne to Shepparton. The train station is centrally located and connected to local bus services and taxis.
By Car: Shepparton is approximately 2 hours from Melbourne via the Hume and Goulburn Valley Highways.
