Children and families enjoyed a creative and culturally enriching experience in this hands-on clay workshop led by local Yorta Yorta artists and facilitated by Kaiela Arts.

Drawing inspiration from the Bayadherra (Long-neck Turtle), Gona (Snake), Gaiyimarr (Kangaroo) and Bigarrumdja (Emu) - animals deeply connected to Yorta Yorta Country, the Barmah Wetlands and Biyala Forest - participants explored stories of Country while creating their own clay animal sculptures to take home.

Blending art, storytelling and cultural knowledge, the workshop offered a meaningful opportunity for young people to connect with the living traditions of Yorta Yorta culture through creativity and making. A valued part of the 2026 Shepparton Arts Festival program, it celebrated the importance of sharing First Nations knowledge and fostering connections between children, culture and Country.
