Call to Create 2021
What is the Call to Create?
The Call to Create initiative invites artists to submit artwork for the 2021 Shepparton Festival's featured promotional art. This will be used to brand the 2021 Festival. The winner will claim $1000 in prize money, and also have the opportunity to promote their work through interviews with the local press, Shepparton Festival guide launch and opening ceremony.
To help you envisage how the winning artwork might be used, let’s use 2020’s winning collage submitted by Rachel Doller as a case study. Please look at pages 5 to 15 of the 2020 Shepparton Festival Report to see the results of last year's Call to Create and how Rachel's art was used for the 2020 Festival's branding, including:
- the 2020 guides (pocket guide and full guide)
- the website
- advertising in the print press
- genre icons
Who can apply ?
All types of artists are welcome to apply. Please note that the selected artwork is to be used as the image promoting the 25th festival, so this will take the form of mostly print and digital media.
You are eligible to apply if you:
- live in the Goulburn Valley;
- are 15 years or older;
- produce a work that is in response to the 2021 Festival theme UNIFY (previously created works retrofitted to the theme will not be accepted).
Application and selection process
Artists must submit their artwork by midnight 31 August 2020 and all supporting information in an application below.
Within 3 weeks of the closing date, the Festival committee will review the applications. The winner will be decided by committee votes. Once a winner has been chosen all applicants will be promptly informed of the outcome.
The winning artwork will be given to our graphic designer to start translating it into 2021 Festival promotional material. The guide should be available in November, website updates by February and media adverts by February/March.
All other submitted artworks will be displayed during various Festival events.
In a nutshell...
The Call to Create is a rare opportunity to have your artwork be the face of the longest-running regional arts festival in Victoria. It is a chance to get creative when thinking about the theme, test your skills, and showcase your talents. We encourage all to apply, regardless of past experiences. If the theme UNIFY gives you a great idea, we want to see it!
